Project Description

IVF and Egg Donation Program in Cyprus

Oocyte donation is performed in most cases, when a couple wishes to have a child, but the woman’s ovaries are no longer able to produce good quality or no oocytes at all. Reasons for this include:

early menopause;

surgical removal of the ovaries;

ratiation treatment or chemotherapy;

a result of age

Oocyte donors are women between the age of 21 and 35 with normal fertility, healthy medical, psychological, spiritual and family backgrounds. Our center provides a very successful oocyte donation program following the official published guidelines of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

The donation program follows the below stages:

  1. Every donation cycle should be planned 1-2 months in advance prior to donation. The program begins with an assessment of the donor to which we provide full consultation and counseling regarding the program as well as its procedures and regulations. This is achieved by recording her personal, medical and demographic background together with the completion of a detailed medical questionnaire.
  2. Clinical examination of donor by a gynecologist.
  3. Laboratory examinations as suggested by official international organizations: Hepatitis B HbsAg and anti-HBC; Hepatitis C; HIV 1 antibody; HIV 2 antibody; Syphilis VDRL; Thalassemia; Full Blood Count; ABO system. All examinations are carried out 2-4 weeks before egg collection. Patients associated with genetic disorders or genetic mutations are not tested unless there is a family history link.
  4. When the donor completes all examinations and is finally approved by the center to anonymously donate her oocytes in the program, she must sign the appropriate consent form and start ovulation induction in order to develop a sufficient number of oocytes. In any particular donation and when this can be done, the center tries to match the external characteristics of the female partner.
  5. As mentioned above, the oocyte donor should follow the procedure as described for the ovulation induction and for the oocyte retrieval stage.
  6. Simultaneously, one or two recipients need to be prepared for the donation. Their period needs to be synchronized with the donor’s period. This is achieved by the appropriate planning by the center, prior to the donation cycle. The recipients must undergo a specific treatment regime to prepare the lining of their uteri to receive the embryos. The oocytes collected from the donor are fertilised with the sperm of the recipient’s partner or in rare cases, a chosen donor. The embryos are further cultured and transferred in the recipient uteri as described in the IVF procedure.

Here is the timeline for our Cyprus Programs:

Your enquiry will be processed within 24 hours.

  • Donor Characteristics form
  • Medical Questionnaire
  • Semen Analysis Form
  • Atlas Fertility Recipient Consent Form

Once you’ve submitted the Donor Characteristics Form in which you will describe your donor’s preferred physical characteristics, we will begin the donor matching process. We will strive to meet your preferences as closely as possible. Your photo will optimize the matching process.

* Please note that recruitment of ethnic donors may take longer.

You will arrive in Cyprus before the donor’s eggs have been harvested for sperm collection purposes. As part of the program, the selected donor will be prepared by our clinician at our Cyprus IVF clinic and undergo an egg harvesting procedure, following which embryologist will perform the process of egg fertilization.

During your stay our team will be happy to arrange the logistics -accommodation, transportation, mobile services, tours and so on. Your coordinator will escort you every step of the way, making sure your every need is met.
